L'AEELI est une Association qui appartient aux libertaires montréalais. À la base de ce projet, des groupes et des individus libertaires qui s’unissent harmonieusement; on nomme cette méthode la solidarité. Ensemble, toutes ces personnes veillent à l’entretien d’un espace collectif.
L’Association a été fondée en 1982 par des camarades soucieux d'assurer qu'il existe un lieu permanent et abordable pour un centre anarchiste (ayant comme priorité une librairie), et cela par l'achat d'un bâtiment au coeur de la ville.
Traditionnellement, l’AEELI loue des locaux à des commerces ou des groupes communautaires pour arriver a payer les frais et subventionné la librairie. Néanmoins, l'AEELI a depuis ces débuts voulu que tous les locaux soit utilisé par des projets libertaires, pour ainsi réaliser un centre de diffusion anarchiste ayant comme premier projet une librairie. Pour y arriver, les projets libertaires abriter dans les locaux de l'AEELI sont appeler à contribuer selon leurs moyens aux dépenses communes de l'Association.
L’Association offre à la librairie des privilèges. En conséquence, la librairie n’est pas totalement autonome : elle a des responsabilités envers l'AEELI et le milieu libertaire d'ici et d'ailleurs. La librairie doit être ouverte à des groupes et individues du milieu libertaire de Montréal, et elle doit présenter un stock livresque qui est au moins le reflet des tendances libertaires présentes dans la ville. Elle doit être ouverte quotidiennement, et à des heures convenables au public. Elle doit être fonctionnelle : promouvoir et liquider le matériel, payer ponctuellement les comptes, s'intéresser aux affaires de l'AEELI et respecter des principes et bases de fonctionnement libertaire et redevable au milieu libertaire de la ville.
L'AEELI a des responsabilités envers la librairie et le milieu libertaire : maintenir la valeur du bâtiment, veiller à louer tous les locaux en privilégiant les projets anarchistes dans la mesure du possible, empêcher la mainmise d’une tendance anarchiste sur notre entreprise, rendre disponible la totalité des documents et des informations relatives à l’Association aux membres, gérer les affaires de l'Association et rendre des comptes pour ainsi remplir toutes les tâches de nature administratif et légale qui favorisent la survie de l’Association et augmenter le potentiel libertaire de l’environnement immédiat. L'AEELI est redevable au milieu libertaire, elle lui appartient essentiellement et de plus en plus visiblement.

The AEELI is an Association belonging to Montreal's anarchists. The basis of this project is groups and individuals coming together; this method is called solidarity. Together, all these persons assure the upkeep of a collective space.
The Association was founded in 1982 by comrades who wanted to assure that there existed a permanent and affordable place for an anarchist centre (with a bookstore as its priority) this being accomplished by the purchase of a building in the centre of the city.
Traditionally, the AEELI rents its spaces to businesses or community groups in order to pay expenses and subsidise the bookstore. Nonetheless, since the beginning, the AEELI wished that all its spaces be used by anarchist projects. In order to do this, anarchist projects housed in the AEELI's spaces were asked to contribute according to their means to the Association's common expenses.
The Association offers the bookstore privileges. As a consequence, the bookstore isn't completely autonomous: it has responsibilities to the AEELI and the anarchist milieu from far and near. The bookstore must be open to groups and individuals from Montreal's anarchist milieu and have a book stock that at least reflects the anarchist tendencies present in the city. It must be open daily and during hours convenient for all. It must be functional: promote and distribute its stock, pay its bills, have an interest in AEELI matters and respect anarchist principles and functioning and be answerable to the anarchist milieu in the city.
The AEELI has responsibilities to the bookstore and the anarchist milieu: to maintain the building's value; assure that all the spaces are leased, giving priority to anarchist projects in so far as possible; prevent the control by one anarchist tendency over our project; make all documents and information concerning the Association available to its members; manage the affairs of the Association and be accountable in order to fulfill all tasks of an administrative and legal nature that favours the survival of the Association and increases the anarchist potential of the immediate environment. The AEELI is answerable to the anarchist milieu; it essentially --and increasingly visibly-- belongs to this milieu.
